Elif Acar (b. 1982) completed her undergraduate degree in the Cinema and Television Department of Akdeniz University’s Faculty of Fine Arts in 2007, graduating top of her department. After working on advertising and short film sets for a period, she turned to the performing arts, undertaking design, directing, acting, and narrative performance projects at independent theatres and arts institutions. She also organizes creative drama, Philosophy for Children (P4C), and art workshops for children.
Drawing on her experience across different disciplines, Acar pursues her artistic practice through a multifaceted approach. In recent years, her work has focused particularly on ecological art. She regards working with natural and locally sourced materials, as well as the processes of collecting, transforming, and preserving them, as integral parts of her artistic practice. While exploring the relationship between humans and nature through the concepts of memory and transformation, she moves beyond a representational approach to her engagement with nature. Instead, she adopts a mode of production that is open to exploration, respectful of nature, receptive to transformation, and attentive to making temporal traces visible. She considers bearing witness to this transformation essential, allowing the practice to become a space for spontaneous learning and experience. Drawing on her experiences across different disciplines, she also explores how this multiplicity and expansion unfold in life and in the process of artistic production. In 2024, Acar participated in Mamut Art Project, and in 2026, she had her solo exhibition ‘Home’ at Oddartspace in Tekirdağ. Elif Acar lives and works in Antalya.
