Represented Artist
Sibel Kırık (b. 1979) has graduated from Yıldız Technical University Gravure and Engraving Department in 2000. Later she continued her education and graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Masters Department of Painting in 2010. She then completed her higher education at the same university by the mentorship of Can Aytekin in 2019. The artist, who has participated in many exhibitions had her solo exhibition titled “Construction of a New Extent: Brutal” at Simbart Projects in 2022.
The concepts in the artist’s production practice are based on the juxtaposition and overlap of space forms formed around synchronicity, strange encounters and relationships, creating a time with a new space. Her recent work shows changes and conflicts in time and space superimposed or intertwined in dystopian spaces; everything that exists is simultaneously experiencing its destruction. This forces us to create a new perspective that transcends the modern views that create a distinction between culture and nature. She prefers to use color in a violent and aggressive structure in places to clearly reflect the conflicts she handles. In the same way, in order to make the effect of chaos evident in the works, distortions in forms as well as color come to the fore. Kırık is represented by Simbart Projects and continues to live and work in Istanbul.
