Ci Demi (b. 1986, Istanbul) graduated from the Department of Italian Language and Literature at Istanbul University. He began exploring visual storytelling at the age of 28. Focusing on the personal psychogeography of Istanbul, his work produces medium- and long-term city narratives. Using a color palette inspired by 1970s Italian horror/thriller films (giallo), he creates a unique universe related to the city and urban life through unstaged/documentary scenes captured during the day. The artist centers on Istanbul, utilizing documentary and street photography approaches to create stories about the city and himself through psychogeography.
His photographs have been featured in prestigious publications such as Foam Magazine and the British Journal of Photography. His works have been exhibited at numerous esteemed festivals and art venues, including Les Rencontres d’Arles abroad and the Pera Museum in Turkey. In 2022, he won the Discovery Award at the Encontros da Imagem photography festival with his project “Unutursam Darılmam” (No Offence If You Forget, 2018 – 2023). His first photo book, “Şehir Fikri” (Notion of a City, 2022), was published by Onagöre. He lives in Istanbul and shoots stories for international publications such as The New York Times, Der Spiegel, Die Zeit, Financial Times, and Society.
